Coronal hole faces Earth

A northern hemisphere coronal hole is facing our planet today.

This is a well known coronal hole that's been around for multiple solar rotations but it did shrink in size compared to the previous rotation. Last rotation, it causes multiple periods with geomagnetic storm condittions at Earth. The NOAA SWPC predicts the solar wind stream to arrive tomorrow (11 October) and has a minor G1 geomagnetic storm watch in effect for both 11 and 12 October.

Any mentioned solar flare in this article has a scaling factor applied by the Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC), the reported solar flares are 42% smaller than for the science quality data. The scaling factor has been removed from our archived solar flare data to reflect the true physical units.
