What are solar flares? What is a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME)?

The plot on this page shows us the most recent 24-hour solar X-ray data from the primary GOES satellite. You can zoom in on this plot by selecting a time period that you wish to view and even export the graph as a JPG, PDF, SVG or PNG file. Beneath that we have a collection of live imagery which can be used to pinpoint the location of a solar flare and see if there was a coronal mass ejection.
