Bulletin

Solar activity is very low and there were no flares reported during last 24 hours. We expect such a low level of flaring activity to persist in the coming hours. However, the eruption was observed at about 09:55 UT this morning from the decaying active region (Catania sunspot group 27) situated close to the disc center. Although no flares were reported the well-defined coronal dimming and the associated EIT wave indicate existence of the associated CME. As the eruption appeared close to the solar disc center, the associated CME is possibly Earth directed. More will be reported when coronagraph data become available. The solar protons remained at the background level.

Earth is still within the slow solar wind with the speed of about 290 km/s and the interplanetary magnetic field magnitude is 5 nT. The solar wind originating from the positive polarity coronal hole (reached the central meridian on January 10), might arrive to Earth in the coming hours and induce the unsettled conditions. Presently geomagnetic conditions are quiet and we expect them to stay so in the coming hours.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 000, based on 11 stations.
