SpaceWeatherLive mobile app update

Happy birthday to the SpaceWeatherLive website and mobile application! Yes, our app celebrates its first birthday today and our website has completed lap number 11 around the Sun (well tomorrow to be more precise but who's counting) and what better way to celebrate than with an update and the introduction of two highly requested features!

Before we go into details on what to expect with the latest app update, we just want to thank all of you for downloading the app, using it and more importantly: telling others about the SpaceWeatherLive app! The number of combined iOS and Android downloads more than exceeded our expectations and motivated us even more to create this update. Thanks!

We are super happy to announce that we are introducing two major new features both for the iOS and Android app with this update. You can now select which of our automated space weather alerts you want to receive on your mobile device and we now offer subscription packages to remove the in-app advertisements! Two highly requested features in one update!

Alert subscriptions

The SpaceWeatherLive alert system consists of numerous automated alerts that have to do with space weather. Its a popular service and one of the most recognizable services that we offer when people think of SpaceWeatherLive. The SpaceWeatherLive alert system pushes automated alerts to our Twitter account and the SpaceWeatherLive mobile application whenever a significant space weather event occurs. Solar flares, geomagnetic storms, CME impacts and earth-facing coronal holes are just a couple of the alerts that we provide. Before this update, anyone installing the mobile application would receive all of the alerts that we provide. However, we understand that not everyone is interested in all of the alerts. There can be quite a few alerts every day when space weather gets stormy! With this update you can now choose exactly which alerts you would like to receive and which ones you don't! Perfect!

SpaceWeatherLive ad-free subscriptions

Yes! Finally! We have received numerous comments and requests about the advertisements in the app. They ruin the in-app experience for some of you, especially in dark mode. Advertisements are a necessary evil unfortunately that provides us with the funds needed to keep SpaceWeatherLive up and running. However, we are really happy to announce that you can now purchase a subscription to remove the adds! By getting rid of the ads you will improve your experience using the SpaceWeatherLive app and support us with a small financial compensation that keeps this show on the road. A win-win situation we think!

How does it work? When you open the app menu you will now see a little drop down called settings. In this sub menu you can now enable dark mode, remove the ads and manage which push alerts you receive. On iOS 13, dark mode can be enabled by enabling the system wide dark mode. The app is optimized to work with the new iOS 13 to adapt to the global dark mode setting.

When you click on the remove ads button you will be taken to a page where you can purchase a subscription to remove the ads. We offer three different subscription plans. A monthly plan, a half-yearly plan and a yearly plan. Prices will vary depending on your country and currency but in US-dollar the prices are the following: a monthly subscription is $0.99, half-yearly subscription $5.49 and yearly subscription $9.99. Your subscription will automatically renew at the end of the subscription period but of course, you can cancel your subscription at any time. The prices showed in the screenshot below are in Swedish krona.

The scaling factor has been removed from our archived solar flare data to reflect the true physical units.
