Bulletin

Solar X-ray flux has been below background (B) level throughout the period. There are no spotted regions on disc and X-ray flux is expected to remain at or below background (B) values.

There were no Earth directed coronal mass ejections observed in coronagraph data.

The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at background levels over the past 24 hours. It is expected to stay at background levels for the next 24 hours. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux was at nominal levels over the past 24 hours. A gradual increase can be expected over the next days related to ongoing elevated Solar wind conditions.

Another low latitude coronal hole with positive polarity is currently rotating over the central meridian in the Northern hemisphere (It is currently not connected to the polar coronal hole). It's impact on near Earth Solar wind may be expected by September 1.

Solar wind conditions remained weakly enhanced, with Solar wind speed in to 400-450 km/s range. The total magnetic field was in the 3-7 nT range with the Bz component starting the period with a peak down to -6nT. The magnetic field phi angle was in the away sector (+) throughout the period. Solar wind is expected to remain moderately enhanced with a renewed increase likely to set in as a number of coronal holes are lining up.

Geomagnetic conditions saw a local active episode at the start of the period (K Dourbes 4, while NOAA Kp 3) but were otherwise quiet (K Dourbes 0-2 and NOAA Kp 0-1). Geomagnetic conditions are expected to be at first mostly quiet to unsettled with active periods becoming increasingly more likely over the next 48 hours.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 000, based on 15 stations.

G1 - Minor geomagnetic storm

Observed Kp: 5
Threshold reached: 21:40 UTC

Current data suggests there is a slight possibility for aurora to appear at the following high latitude regions in the near future

Tórshavn
Oulu, Rovaniemi
Trondheim
Arkhangelsk
Luleå, Umeå
The strength of the interplanetary magnetic field is moderate (14.93nT), the direction is North (4.89nT).
The Disturbance Storm Time index predicts strong storm conditions right now (-132nT)
