Geophysical report

Any mentioned solar flare in this report has a scaling factor applied by the Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC). Because of the SWPC scaling factor, solar flares are reported as 42% smaller than for the science quality data. The scaling factor has been removed from our archived solar flare data to reflect the true physical units.

THE GEOMAGNETIC FIELD WAS QUIET. AT THIS TIME, THE EXPECTED SHOCK FROM THE HALO CORONAL MASS EJECTION ON 18 DEC HAS NOT ARRIVED.
D. Stratwarm
STRATWARM ALERT/MONDAY/STRATWARM EXISTS. MAJOR WARMING EXISTS. THE MAIN ANTICYCLONE IS LOCATED OVER NORWEGIAN SEA AND THE SECOND OVER BERING SEA. THE WARM AIR MOVES SOUTHWARDS TO BARENTS SEA AND CENTRAL SIBERIAN PLATEAU, FURTHER SLIGHTLY WEAKENING. THE TWO CENTRES OF THE VORTEX EXIST OVER SIBERIA AND HUDSON BAY, TODAY. MEAN ZONAL WIND AT 60 N IS FURTHER FROM EAST AT 10 HPA. TEMPERATURE GRADIENT REVERSED BETWEEN 60 N AND THE POLE IN THE LOWER AND MIDDLE STRATOSPHERE.
