Solar activity report

Any mentioned solar flare in this report has a scaling factor applied by the Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC). Because of the SWPC scaling factor, solar flares are reported as 42% smaller than for the science quality data. The scaling factor has been removed from our archived solar flare data to reflect the true physical units.

Joint USAF/NOAA Report of Solar and Geophysical Activity

SDF Number 132 Issued at 2200Z on 12 MAY 1999

IA. Analysis of Solar Active Regions and Activity from 11-2100Z to 12-2100Z

SOLAR ACTIVITY HAS BEEN LOW. TWO C-CLASS X-RAY FLARES WERE OBSERVED WITH THE LARGEST A C4/SF AT 11/2208Z. THE FLARE WAS OPTICALLY CORRELATED WITH A NEW REGION NUMBERED TODAY AS REGION 8542 (S19E58).
IB. Solar Activity Forecast
SOLAR ACTIVITY IS EXPECTED TO BE LOW TO MODERATE THROUGH THE FORECAST PERIOD.
IIA. Geophysical Activity Summary 11-2100Z to 12-2100Z
THE GEOMAGNETIC FIELD WAS PREDOMINATELY QUIET THROUGH THE PERIOD WITH UNSETTLED CONDITIONS AFTER 12/1800Z. THE GREATER THAN 2 MEV ELECTRONS AT GEOSYNCHRONOUS ORBITS WERE AT MODERATE TO HIGH LEVELS.
IIB. Geophysical Activity Forecast
THE GEOMAGNETIC FIELD IS EXPECTED TO BE AT UNSETTLED TO ACTIVE CONDITIONS THE FIRST DAY OF THE FORECAST DUE TO THE CME OBSERVED EARLY ON 10 MAY. QUIET TO UNSETTLED CONDITIONS ARE FORECAST FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE PERIOD.
