Bulletin

Solar activity was very low during the period, with no C-class flares or higher observed. The solar disk was reported spotless at noon on 6 March. Some coronal dimming in a bipolar, spotless region near N05E30 occurred around 5 March/12:00UT and was followed about an hour later by a faint coronal wave emanating from this region to the south and west. The associated coronal mass ejection (CME) was slow and diffuse and was directed mostly to the south and east of the Earth. A glancing blow from this CME is currently considered unlikely. The greater than 10MeV proton flux was at nominal levels.

Quiet flaring conditions are expected to continue.

Earth remained under the influence of the high speed stream (HSS) from the trans-equatorial extension from the negative southern polar coronal hole (CH). A gradually declining solar wind speed varied between mostly 650 and 600 km/s, ending the period with values around 600 km/s. Bz mostly fluctuated between -5 nT and +6 nT. The interplanetary magnetic field was directed towards the Sun.

The geomagnetic field was at quiet to active levels, with Dourbes reporting a minor storming episode during the 18-21UT interval. Quiet to active geomagnetic conditions are expected, with still a small chance on a minor storming interval.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 000, based on 10 stations.
